Add comps
Summary: On the POS device you record a comp by discounting the line to zero (or partially) on the order — Live Events detects the comped units and totals them for settlement automatically.
Before you begin
- Comps are captured from POS orders only, so the sale must be rung up in Shopify POS at the event's location.
- For what a comp means and how it affects totals and attendance, see the hub article: Comps.
Steps
- Add the complimentary product to the cart as you normally would.
- Apply a discount to that line. Use the standard Shopify POS discount controls — see Shopify's POS help for applying line and cart discounts.
- Fully comped: discount the line down to $0 (the discount equals the full line value). Every unit on the line is recorded as a comp.
- Partially comped: apply a partial discount. Live Events records the equivalent number of free units (discount ÷ unit price).
- Complete checkout. There's no separate comp button — once the order is placed, Live Events reads the discount and creates the comp record for that line at this location.
- Review the totals later under COMPS in the Settle event modal, where comped units are grouped by product and variant.
