Add comps

Summary: On the POS device you record a comp by discounting the line to zero (or partially) on the order — Live Events detects the comped units and totals them for settlement automatically.

Before you begin

  • Comps are captured from POS orders only, so the sale must be rung up in Shopify POS at the event's location.
  • For what a comp means and how it affects totals and attendance, see the hub article: Comps.

Steps

  1. Add the complimentary product to the cart as you normally would.
  2. Apply a discount to that line. Use the standard Shopify POS discount controls — see Shopify's POS help for applying line and cart discounts.
    • Fully comped: discount the line down to $0 (the discount equals the full line value). Every unit on the line is recorded as a comp.
    • Partially comped: apply a partial discount. Live Events records the equivalent number of free units (discount ÷ unit price).
  3. Complete checkout. There's no separate comp button — once the order is placed, Live Events reads the discount and creates the comp record for that line at this location.
  4. Review the totals later under COMPS in the Settle event modal, where comped units are grouped by product and variant.
