The service fee

Summary: The service fee is an additional processing fee added as a line item to a sale at the POS.

Before you begin

  • The service fee is a POS feature — it's added at the point of sale, not configured per event.
  • The Live Events service-fee extension must be enabled on the POS device.

How it works

The service fee — also referred to as the Additional Processing Fee — is a small, fixed charge added to the cart as its own line item at checkout. It's a flat per-cart amount (not a percentage), added automatically as one quantity.

Behavior to know:

  • The fee is added as a custom sale line on the cart, with its own title, so it appears as a distinct line on the receipt.
  • It's added once per cart: if the fee line is already present, it isn't added again, and the extension guards against adding a duplicate while a previous add is still in flight.
  • If the cart is emptied, the fee line goes away with it.
  • The fee is not taxable.

Because the service fee is a line item on the order, it becomes part of the order's revenue and is handled like any other line during settlement.

Where to configure it

In Shopify Admin

The service fee isn't set per event in the Live Events app. The amount and title are defined in the service-fee POS extension itself; changing them is a configuration/development change to that extension rather than a setting in the app's event form. If you need the amount changed, contact your OneLive administrator.

On the POS

The service fee is applied on the POS. Once the service-fee extension is enabled, it adds the fee automatically as items are added to the cart, surfaced from the home tile. Staff don't need to add it manually. See Apply the service fee for the step-by-step on the device.
