Venue & partner splits
Summary: Splits are percentages that divide each event's revenue between the venue and the artist/partner, set per product type or across all products.
Before you begin
- You need an event to attach the splits to. Splits are stored on the event.
- Splits must be configured before you can settle an event — the settlement screen blocks submission if an event has no splits set.
How it works
Splits decide how the money from an event is shared. There are two related settings on the event:
- Venue splits — the percentage of revenue the venue keeps, per category.
- Partner splits — the percentage that goes to the artist/event partner, per category.
You can define splits in two ways:
- All products — one percentage that applies to everything sold.
- By product type — a separate percentage per product type (for example, Music vs Apparel), plus an Other rate for any product type you didn't list.
Each line item is grouped into a split category by its Shopify product type (matched case-insensitively). If a product's type doesn't match a category you defined, it falls back to Other, then to All.
The split is applied to the adjusted gross — that is, revenue after tax and card fees are removed — not to the raw sale total. For each category:
- Venue's cut = adjusted gross for that category × venue percentage.
- Artist/partner's cut = adjusted gross for that category × partner percentage.
A couple of helpful rules:
- If you set a venue split but no partner split for a category, the partner share defaults to 100% minus the venue split.
- If you set partner splits but no venue splits, the venue share for that category is treated as 0% and the partner takes the configured share.
These cuts are the starting point for each party's amount due on the settlement; the retained-by choices then add or subtract the tax and card-fee amounts.
Where to configure it
Splits are stored on the event, so they can be set wherever you edit the event.
In Shopify Admin
- Open the Live Events app and go to an event.
- In the event form, open the Venue splits (%) section.
- Choose All products to set one venue percentage for everything, or By product type to add a per-type percentage (and an Other rate for unlisted types).
- Enter the percentage(s) and save the event.
On the POS
Splits are not edited on the POS — they're read from the event when you settle. On the Settle event screen, the configured percentages drive the per-category cuts shown in the settlement breakdown. If an event has no splits set, the POS shows a warning ("Define splits for this event before saving a settlement") and blocks submission until you set them in the event form.
