Finding a Better Way to Sell Merchandise on Tour
For years, artists and merch teams have relied on legacy point-of-sale systems that were never truly built for the fast-paced realities of live touring. Managing inventory across venues, accessing accurate sales reporting, and adapting to evolving operational needs often required cumbersome workarounds and disconnected tools.
As merchandise has become an increasingly important revenue driver, the shortcomings of traditional systems have become harder to ignore. Teams need faster access to data, better inventory visibility, and technology that can keep pace with live events — not slow them down.
When Justin Hayward’s 2026 tour launched, ONELIVE saw an opportunity to introduce a more modern approach to live commerce: a flexible, Shopify-powered POS platform purpose-built for touring environments.

Building a Smarter Live Events POS
ONELIVE developed a live event POS system designed to simplify onsite merchandise operations while connecting seamlessly with an artist’s broader ecommerce ecosystem.
The platform combined real-time inventory tracking, mobile payment processing, barcode scanning, advanced analytics, and streamlined reporting into a single unified system. Rather than operating independently from ecommerce, the POS synced inventory, customer data, and sales insights across every channel.
Justin Hayward’s tour became the first national-scale live deployment of the platform, giving ONELIVE the opportunity to validate the technology in real-world conditions while working directly alongside the merch team to refine the experience.

Putting it to the Test
Across six performances in California and Florida, Justin Hayward’s merchandise team used the ONELIVE POS platform to manage all onsite sales operations. During a peak intermission rush, the team processed 24 orders in just 10 minutes — one completed transaction every 25 seconds — despite the merchant being new to the platform on this tour, demonstrating how quickly and intuitively the system can be adopted. Compared to a leading competitor POS platform used previously by the same artist and merchant team, ONELIVE also delivered 72% higher revenue per head.
Although the transition involved replacing a long-standing workflow, the team adapted quickly and was able to operate efficiently from the outset. Throughout the run, ONELIVE maintained a close feedback loop with the merch staff, implementing adjustments and releasing new functionality between shows.
During the tour, they maintained an average 8-14% tour-wide buyer conversion rate and reached a peak buyer conversion rate of 14.3% at the top-performing show — meaning roughly 1 in every 7 attendees made a purchase — highlighting both strong fan engagement and operational efficiency at the point of sale.
Features such as barcode scanning, phone-based payment processing, enhanced reporting, and expanded analytics were introduced during the tour itself. Each improvement was designed to reduce friction at the point of sale while giving the team greater visibility into inventory and sales performance.

“I thought the tap to pay on the phone worked seamlessly, and I'm definitely a big fan of that. I really liked how it was actually quicker than using the card reader or any other hardware.”

Faster Sales, Better Visibility, Stronger Performance
The tour successfully demonstrated the platform’s ability to support high-volume merchandise sales while continuously evolving based on real-time feedback.
One of the clearest indicators of success was the merch team’s growing confidence in the system. What began as a transition to a new platform quickly became a streamlined operational workflow that integrated naturally into day-to-day tour activity.
ONELIVE’s ability to iterate rapidly also proved valuable throughout the run. Insights gathered after early shows directly shaped new features and refinements, resulting in faster transactions, smoother operations, and a more intuitive experience for staff.
Tools like smartphone-based tap-to-pay (no card reader needed) and barcode scanning became especially impactful, helping accelerate checkout speed and simplify merchandise management at the venue level.
Beyond operational improvements, the tour highlighted the advantages of connecting live merchandise sales with ecommerce, inventory management, and centralized reporting within a single platform. Compared to traditional POS setups, the ONELIVE system provided significantly greater transparency and control across the entire merchandise operation.
By the final show, the platform delivered a seamless experience from setup through settlement — validating both the flexibility of the technology and the value of a live event POS built specifically for the touring industry.
“I feel totally comfortable using it now. Absolutely. I don’t have any reservations whatsoever.”
